Join us for one of two free outdoor workshops, each taking place at a different Ballyhass location.

Spend time outdoors, learn something new, and discover more about the natural world around you with Nature Network Ireland.

Discover the nature around you

Join John Armstrong, Ecologist at Nature Network Ireland, for a guided outdoor workshop exploring the natural world at Ballyhass.

Through a relaxed nature walk, John will help you discover more about the habitats around us, why biodiversity matters, and the simple ways we can all help protect the environment.

If you’re already passionate about nature or simply curious to learn something new, this workshop is for everyone.

Whether you choose Ballyhass Mallow on Saturday or Ballyhass Coachford on Sunday, you’ll experience the same interactive workshop, with each location offering a different landscape to explore and a new perspective on nature.

Led by John Armstrong from Nature Network Ireland, you’ll learn why biodiversity matters, how different parts of nature connect, and what we can all do to support the environment around us.

No previous knowledge needed - just curiosity and a love for being outdoors.

Gill brings deep restoration and ecology experience, from work in New Zealand to environmental leadership and citizen-science projects closer to home. Her sessions connect big-picture environmental thinking with practical, grounded action.

With a First-Class Honours degree in Ecology from UCC and extensive public-engagement experience, John brings energy, expertise and real clarity to environmental education, biodiversity awareness and action planning.

Dress comfortably for the outdoors and footwear comfortable for walking. We encourage you to bring swimwear etc. if you wish to extend your day and participate in one of our activities.

Founder & Director, Nature Network Ireland

Gill brings decades of restoration-project expertise—from tracking Little Spotted Kiwi in New Zealand to marine strategic planning on the Isle of Man. A seasoned citizen-science leader and environmental-science educator, she’s chaired projects with BirdWatch Ireland, Fota Wildlife Park, and BTCV UK.

John Armstrong

Ecologist, Nature Network Ireland

With a First-Class Honours degree in Ecology from UCC and over 1,000 public talks and tours under his belt, John has led water-biodiversity and action-planning training across Ireland. He represents Nature Network on the SWAN board, uniting 25 NGOs in river, lake, and coastal restoration.
