Adventure Post of the Day
Mountain of Storms a retro adventure film that will stoke your wanderlust.
So we have been sharing some of our favourite pieces of adventure content over the last week or so and will be continuing to do so going forward. I think we all need some escapism and adventure in the outdoors even if all we can do at the moment is look out at it. We are just on the back of the news that the lockdown has been extended for 3 extra weeks. It wasn't unexpected but also it's another long stretch of time that we must adapt and stay positive through.
Funnily this movie popped straight to mind after the announcement. We for sure are going through hardships in this time, but to put into perspective our situation take some time away from your day put your book down and watch "Mountain of Storms". It is one of my favourite adventure films produced by Patagonia and featuring its founder. It follows an amazing road trip from California all the way down to Chile and Patagonia in South America in the 1960s!! A time when there was no phones, internet or any other fast form of communication. They have to meet friends by organizing meetings months in advance! (see just what happens when they miss these dates!) The section that came to mind, however, was the journey to their final destination Mount Fitzroy a mountain that had only once before being summited. En route they had to spend over 15 days in a cramped ice cave on the side of the mountain that they dug themselves. I certainly rewatched it and it gave me a change in my own perspective.
It's a retro journey with a hilarious commentator that really is a cinematic joy. How the hell did they get some of the shots??
Anyway, we hope that it gives you a bit of distraction during this time, it sure worked for us.
Stay tuned for a weekly newsletter that will be coming out with updates from the Adventure Group but also curating some of what we have been sharing over this time.
See you soon,
