WSA Sit On Top Adventure Guide Kayaking Course

Join us for an amazing educational kayaking course run by our dedicated instructors certified by the Water Skills Acadamy (WSA). This course is perfect for aspiring leaders who wish to lead groups on Sit on Top (SoT) kayaks in sheltered waters such as coastal, rivers, and lakes. In completing this course you will receive an award demonstrating your competence to lead a group on SoT kayaks.

Must have a WSA membership to complete the course.

Must have a 16-hour first aid course (REC or PHECC)

Provide documented evidence of 6 full day journeys in 2 different water enviroments (lake/coast) after completion of training.

The WSA SOT Adventure Guide Course is aimed at aspiring leaders who wish to lead groups on Sit on Top kayaks in sheltered water locations. This course is certified by the Water Skills Academy.

This award fills the gap that no other organisation provides; an award that demonstrates the competence of leaders who wish to operate in coastal and river environments on SOT kayaks.

This training course is run over 2 days with a 1 day assessment after a consolidation period

 

The course will identify the competence of individuals to lead up to 6 paddlers on solo SOT’s or 4 tandem SOT kayaks on Coastal and river journeys on single day trips. The WSA SOT Adventure Guide will have been trained and assessed in their ability to make judgements in coastal and river environments and the suitability of particular journeys for the experience levels of individual paddlers.

The aspiring leader should be a SOT kayak paddler with either the Irish Canoe Union 2* award, WSA SOT Skills Award or competent paddler. The minimum recommended experience to attend training is three coastal and river journeys on SOT kayaks from two different venues
