There are two of us who want to do activities, can we just turn up?
Firstly, we really recommend booking everything in advance, especially in the peak summer months to avoid disappointment. A lot of our adventure activities are predominantly best suited for a group. We look for a minimum of ten people to take part in activities. This is because we want to provide the best experience possible. With a group it is far more fun as we can create a whole event out of each activity, playing games and little competitions between members of the group. There are however a few exceptions to this rule and they are our Aquapark and Wakeboarding .These can be done by individuals, couples or small groups.
Can we just do one activity?
Yes, we offer wakeboarding and the Aquapark as single activities (They can also be booked together if you wish). For the other adventure activities - in general we need to get our instructors in for a minimum of half a day which is three hours or two activities so that is why we only offer a minimum of two acivities. It also comes back to the best experience possible, we truely believe that to get the best out of Ballyhass you really need to spend a minimum of three hours here. You wont regret it!
How long do we have to book in advance?
This is very much dependent on the size of your group. If you have less then 24 participants anything up to 72hrs before is fine. You can book online or call the office and the booking team will be more than happy to sort you out. If you have less than 10 and are looking to go wakeboarding or to the aquapark, the day before may be enough time and its always worth giving us try even on the day. Anything over 30 participants it is best to give us longer notice so you can be guarnteed your activity choices. For Wakeboarding and the Aquapark you can book on line and select you own time slot up to the day before you wish to arrive. If you are seeking a time slot on the same day as your arrival you will need to telephone us to check the availability.
Do I have to pay a deposit when booking?
Yes we insist on a deposit for all group bookings. Our bokings will explain our deposit procedure with any organisation and issue a deposit invoice if necessary. Please note no booking is confirmed until a deposit is paid.
How do I fill in a Ballyhass Smart Waiver?

What activities are suitable for adults?
All our activities are suitable for adults. We are a group activity centre meaning that our instructors will tailor each activity to the abilities of each group. So for adults we will make each activity more challenging to the group (or easier depending on the abilities). The difference between an adult group and juvenille is quite stark, no two sessions are the same. So if you like the look of a certain activity dont be afraid to request it, we will create the best possible experience for your group.
What activities are suitable for children?
Similar to the answer above, all activities are suitable to children 8yrs and up. We will tailor each session to the age profile and ability of the group, we do recommend wakeboarding for 12+ years however to get the most out of it.
My child is under 8 can they take part in activities?
The Aquapark is the only activity suitable for 6 to 8 years. All our other activities are for 8+ years. This is mostly physical reason but also a safety one. There is a physical element to everything we do here at the lakes and children under 8 often are unable to complete the activity. If you take kayaking as an example, the paddles are over six feet long and the boat is over ten feet long. Children that young just wont be able to keep up with older participants and will often get frustrated and have a bad first experience. We are opening a whole world of new sport to people and we would hate for someone to be turned off because they were introduced too early. They have tonnes of time so we would recommend not too rush it, they will thank you after!
Im nervous of heights or a particular activity, will I have to do it?
Absolutely not. We are purely a challenge by choice centre, you will never be forced to do anything you dont want to do. Just an attempt on some activities can be as much of an achievement as others going all the way to the top. Our instructors are excellent at encouraging participants to try something they might not have done before but to stress, you will never be forced to do any activity you do not want to do.
Can some of my group do different activities than the others?
No. Each group must do the same activities. We will schedule instructors to stick with your group for the day so they can only be on one activity at a time. Our perfect group size is 12 so if you have a group of 24 we will split you into two groups. Group 1 could be doing kayaking first while group 2 is doing zip line and then switch over for the second session. When grups get to 60+ the exact activtiy schedule may differ slightly, but we will maintain the same mix of land, water or height for each group.
Can we just rent a kayak and go out ourselves, or use my own boat?
No. It is a strict requirement of our insurance that at all times, clients out on the water must be supervised by our instructors.
Is there something for me to do on site while my group is on activities?
The BH Coffee Dock serves tea, coffee and snacks throughout the activity day, we also have free WiFi and comfortable seating with great views. There is also a nice walk that you can take around the lake and you are free to walk around with the group and observe the activities.
What do I bring for a day at Ballyhass?
Swimming Togs, A towel, wet shoes or old shoes that you can get wet, warm clothing, hat, fleece top, runners for dry activities, rain coat & pants, sun cream, packed lunch, lots of drinks. See the essential info section for full details.
Is there cafe on site?
The BH Coffee Dock serves tea, coffee and snacks throughout the activity day, we also have free WiFi and comfortable seating with great views.
Can we arrange catering for our group?
Absolutely. We offer either a hot lunch which consists of a hot pot type meal, chicken curry, Irish stew, chicken bake, lasagne etc with sides and water. A cold lunch of sandwich, crisps, fruit & drink. Hot is €12 per person & cold is €8 per person. These must be booked in advance. You can also order Pizza from the local Papa Johns who will deliver for any groups. Don't forget you can always bring a packed lunch or picnic if the options above do not suit.
Can I go for a swim in the lake?
No, our insurance does not cover us for any unsupervised swimming in the lake and it is a strict no. But why would you not just book into our amazing Aquapark and have great fun while going for a dip at the same time!
Is the lake open for fishing?
Unfortunately no. The lake/site has got so busy with activities we have ceased stocking the lake and are no longer offering fishing.
Is the tackle shop still open?
yes, we still have a limited supply of flies and tackle. We are no longer getting in new stock but we still have plenty to sell and all well discounted, up to 50% off!
Can I book in for a 1 night stay?
No. We have a minimum of a two night stay in the houses. Our rates our broken down into a 2night/3night or 7night stay.
Can I book a 3 night stay in July?
No. During July & August each year we only permit, 7 night bookings that run from Saturday to Saturday. This is standard self catering booking procedure. However there may be vacant slots when late availability occurs, so it is always worth a telephone call to us to check if you can be accommodated.
Are activities included with a house booking?
No, we are afraid not however we run an annual deal during the summer that if you rent a house for a week you will receive a free family pass (2 adults & 2 u18s) to our aquapark, you can also receive discounts to our summercamps in July and subject to availability of Team Ballyhass instructors we may be able to organise an evening activity.
What is a Wakecation?
A wakecation is when you and a group of friends or family book a holiday home for a couple of days and avail of discounted wakeboarding on our cable. Call the bookings office on 02227773 to check out prices and availability.
Are the Holiday Homes Pet Friendly?
Yes all our holiday homes are pet friendly. Up to two pets allowed in each house. All pets are to be either remain in the house when out and about or on a leash when out for a walk with your pet. We have a strict no fouling policy on site.
Is there WiFi?
Unfortunately none of our holiday home have WiFi. Visitors enjoy the peace and quiet and the digital detox it offers. We do offer free WiFi at the BH Coffee Dock though for all visitors.
I have a group of 14+ participants, can we stay in the holiday homes?
Our holiday homes are primarily for small family groups and are not suitable for large groups or youth groups. We do have alternatives with local accommodation providers. Contact our bookings team at [email protected] or 02227773 and they would be happy to go through your options.
