Wakepark East · Ballyhass Mallow
The Most Addictive Watersport in Cork. And the Crew to Progress With.
If you are looking for a sport with a serious buzz, fast progression and a community that is genuinely backing you to land the next one, Wakepark East is where it starts. This is not just a one-off water activity. It is a scene, a skill, and for a lot of riders, the start of a full-blown obsession.
Whether you are learning to stand for the first time, chasing your first kicker hit or building towards more advanced riding, Ballyhass gives you the coaching, setup and atmosphere to keep progressing. Accessible from age 10+, cable wakeboarding is one of the fastest ways to learn, level up and get hooked on the buzz of riding.
Join an Amazing Watersports Community in Cork
Wakeboarding moves quickly. That is part of the hook. Cable riding makes learning more accessible, more social and more repeatable, which is why riders can progress far faster than people expect.
But what really keeps people coming back is not just the ride time. It is the atmosphere. The encouragement from the dock. The chase for the next trick. The buzz when someone finally sticks one. Ballyhass is not just a place to ride. It is the kind of place people start shaping their summer around.
From First Stand to First Trick
Beginners should aim for the West Park where possible, but lessons can run on both systems. More experienced riders can get straight into East Park progression, features and member sessions.
Whether you are building confidence, cleaning up your edge control, starting obstacles or chasing your next proper land, Ballyhass gives you a progression environment rather than just a booking slot.

East vs West
Choose the Park That Fits Your Level
Ballyhass has two straight-line cable systems. West is the ideal place to start if you are newer to the sport. East is where more experienced riders can really get after it.
For Riders Ready to Progress Harder
East Park is built for stronger progression and more advanced riding. If you are already standing, edging, riding confidently or starting to chase features, this is where things get properly interesting.

Opening Times
When the Park is Running
Opening times vary throughout the year depending on demand and weather, but the Wakepark season is designed to keep riders on the water right through the brighter months and well into the evenings when conditions allow.
Typical Opening Pattern
| General Note | Opening times vary throughout the year depending on demand and weather. |
|---|---|
| April | Tuesday - Sunday evenings |
| May - August | Tuesday - Friday evenings, weekend afternoons and evenings |
| September - October | Tuesday - Sunday evenings |
Floodlights Keep the Sessions Going
Even as the evenings get darker, the riding does not have to stop. Throughout April, September and October, the park floodlights fully illuminate the system, allowing wakeboarding to continue safely and comfortably into the evening.
That means more ride time, better after-work sessions and a proper evening atmosphere on the dock when the light starts to fade.
Ride More. Meet More People. Progress Faster.
From jam nights and junior sessions to ladies coaching and the Ballyhass Open, our wakepark events are designed to build progression, community and a proper atmosphere on and off the water.
This is where the Wakepark becomes more than just a booking. It becomes a crew, a habit and a summer built around riding.
Jam Nights
These group event evenings are one of the best ways to meet the wider wakeboarding crew. Once you are at obstacle standard, Jam Nights give you the chance to push your limits with encouragement on the dock, smaller focused sets and plenty of energy around every attempt.
Instead of your usual 15 minute set, you ride shorter 5 minute hits, making it easier to focus on one trick at a time, reset quickly and feed off the crowd as the night builds.
Jam Nights are social, themed and now even better under floodlights, with snacks, challenges and a proper late-session atmosphere. Keep an eye on the events calendar and Instagram for the next date and theme.
Junior Jams
The same great atmosphere as the main open jams, but built specifically for the younger crew. Junior Jams are all about helping 10–17 year olds build confidence, meet other young riders and become part of the next generation of Ballyhass wakeboarders.
They are a brilliant stepping stone into the wider wakeboarding scene and pair perfectly with products like Cutting Edge Summer Camp, Junior Learn to Wakeboard and Grom Academy: Progression Series.
Ladies Learn to Wakeboard
A supportive, beginner-friendly course designed especially for women aged 17–65. Over six weeks, riders receive personalised one-to-one coaching, build confidence on the water and progress in a fun, pressure-free environment.
There is loads of ride time, genuine encouragement from the group and a great social feel throughout. Whether you are brand new or already beyond beginner level and looking to improve, this is a brilliant way to learn, connect and get more comfortable on the water.
Ballyhass Open Competition
The Ballyhass Open is the big one — a full-on social weekend that brings together everyone from first-time rookies to experienced riders. It is about progression, good people, dockside energy and celebrating the season properly.
The format changes from year to year to keep things fresh, but the atmosphere always lands the same way: supportive, exciting and full of energy. It usually kicks off with a Friday night jam and rolls into a full weekend of riding, spectating, hanging out and unforgettable moments on the water.
With on-site bunkhouse accommodation available, it becomes more than a comp. It becomes a full wakepark weekend.
Your First Time
If it is your first time at the park, we usually recommend booking two 15-minute sets. That gives you the chance to get out on the water, come back in, take a breather, learn from the first set and go again with much more confidence.
If you are coming with a friend, alternating sets works really well. If you are coming on your own, booking two sets with one in between is often ideal. That gap gives you time to reset, watch others ride and usually pick up a few tips from the dock too.
If you want the best first experience possible, we would usually point you towards our Learn to Wake product. It is built specifically for beginners and gives you a stronger introduction to the sport than simply booking a standard set.
Watch this to get a feel for what it is like to visit the park for the first time.
Progress Faster and Ride More Often
If you are already comfortable on the water and know you want to ride regularly, that is where the Adventure Pass and seasonal membership options start to make real sense. They are the most affordable way to ride consistently at Ballyhass, unlock better-value sessions and keep building through the season.
Add credit to your account for even better value, plug into the wider wakeboarding community and make Ballyhass part of your weekly rhythm rather than just an occasional session.
Arrive Early and Get Set
The Wakepark is around a 5 minute walk from reception, so it is best to arrive at least 20 minutes before your allocated time slot. That gives you time to check in, get your bearings and head down to the park without feeling rushed — especially if it is your first visit.
A relaxed start makes a big difference on the dock. It gives you time to take in the setup, watch a few sets and get comfortable before it is your turn to ride.

Book the Whole Park for Your Crew
If you have a group that is into watersports, this is one of the coolest group day outs in Cork. Wakepark group bookings are ideal for team days, sports clubs, staff outings and groups of friends looking for something active, social and genuinely memorable.
The park suits 12 people every 90 minutes. So if you have 24 people, you are typically looking at around 3 hours on the park. During your booking, you have the whole Wakepark and dock to yourselves, giving the session a much more private, high-energy and relaxed feel.
On a good summer day, when the sun is out, the water is crystal clear and everyone is hanging out together between sets, there really are not many better outdoor group experiences.
Who This Works Brilliantly For
- Adult sports teams
- Corporate groups
- Staff outings
- Friend groups
- Clubs and active social groups
Combine Wakeboarding & Axe Throwing
One of the best partner activities for a Wakepark booking is Axe Throwing. It is the perfect way to build the ultimate day out for adult sports teams, corporate groups and competitive friend groups.
Axe Throwing runs as a group tournament to crown the G.O.A.T of the day, so if things were not competitive enough on the dock, everyone gets another shot at bragging rights afterwards.
Build a Bigger Day Out
- Zipline & Crate Stack
- High Ropes
- Cliff Climbing
- Low Ropes & Team Games
- Kayaking
- Archery
- Sauna & Lake Plunge
Finish the Day Properly
Top it all off with food from the LET’S EAT Café. Food packages can be added to all activity combo days, making it easy to build a full experience rather than just a single booking.
Contact the Bookings Team on 022 27773 and they can help organise every part of the day for you.
