Hot, dip, reset, repeat.
New to sauna? Keep it simple. At Ballyhass, we like to use the session in rounds — warm up properly, cool off in the lake, then go again if it feels right. Comfort should guide you, not endurance. :contentReference[oaicite:0]{index=0}
Start with 10–15 minutes in the heat
Settle in, breathe, and let your body warm up properly. If you are new to sauna, start easy and build from there rather than trying to “win” your first session.
Cool off with a dip
Step out, take your time, and cool down in the lake. Sudden cold water can trigger a cold-shock response, so enter calmly and stay in control, especially if you are new to cold water. :contentReference[oaicite:1]{index=1}
Rest, breathe, hydrate
Give yourself a minute between rounds. Hydration matters before and after sauna, and comfort should be the benchmark throughout. :contentReference[oaicite:2]{index=2}
Go again if it feels good
A common Ballyhass rhythm is 10–15 minutes in, dip, reset, and repeat. Some people do two rounds, some do three. You do not need to max out the full hour in one sitting.
One simple way to use your 60 minutes
A few important things
- Strictly 16+. Under 16s are not permitted.
- Please shower before your session. Showers are available onsite.
- Bring flip-flops or wet shoes.
- Do not wear oils or lotions into the sauna.
- Remove jewellery before entering, as metal can heat up quickly.
- Drink water before and after your session to help avoid dehydration. :contentReference[oaicite:3]{index=3}
- Ballyhass Members get 1 free session per day. Any extra sessions are charged at Adventure Pass rate.
Sauna and cold water are not for pushing through discomfort. Avoid using the sauna if you feel unwell, and take extra care if you are pregnant, have a heart condition, use certain heat-sensitive medications, or are unsure whether heat and cold exposure is right for you. Pregnancy guidance commonly advises avoiding saunas because of overheating and dehydration risk, and cold-water immersion can put sudden stress on the heart. :contentReference[oaicite:4]{index=4}
Come ready for the full session.
You do not need much, but arriving with the right bits makes the whole experience smoother — especially if you are planning to dip, reset and repeat.
A few common questions.
Is this sauna suitable for me?
Ballyhass Saunas are strictly for guests aged 16+. Sauna and cold-water sessions are also not suitable for everyone. If you are pregnant, have heart or blood pressure concerns, have a health condition affected by heat, or are unsure, this session may not be right for you.
What is hot and cold therapy?
It is simply moving between heat and cold — usually sauna followed by a cool-down or dip. Many people enjoy it for the feeling of recovery, reset and relaxation after the session.
Can I bring my own oils?
Not for public sessions. On some private hire sessions this may be possible, but please check with Team Ballyhass in advance and let us know exactly what you plan to use.
What are some of the benefits of using the sauna?
Most people use sauna because it feels good — helping them slow down, relax, warm up fully and switch off. Regular sauna use may also support recovery, routine and better sleep for some people.
Can I combine this session with other activities?
Absolutely. Sauna works brilliantly alongside open-water swimming, SUP, kayaking, wakeboarding and other Ballyhass activities. If you want help building a full day, get onto the bookings team.
How many rounds should I do in one session?
There is no perfect number. A very normal Ballyhass rhythm is 10–15 minutes in the sauna, dip, reset and repeat. Two or three rounds is plenty for most people.
Why we started saunas.
Ballyhass Saunas did not start as a trend-chasing add-on. They started because the lake was already doing something special for people — getting them outdoors, helping them reset, and creating a place where a simple dip could turn into a proper ritual.
We wanted to build on that in a way that still felt true to Ballyhass. Not a chrome spa. Not a polished indoor wellness club. Something more natural, more local and more real — heat, cold water, great chats and the kind of session you actually want to come back for.
That is why Ballyhass Saunas are built around full 60-minute sessions, natural freshwater dips, reliable facilities and a setup that works as part of real life. A post-work reset. A Sunday morning ritual. A new local habit.
